Fotis Dulos In Critical Condition After Apparent Suicide Attempt

Law enforcement vehicles parked outside Fotis Dulos' Farmington home on Tuesday, January 28, 2020.

has been hospitalized in critical condition, according to law enforcement officials, after being found unresponsive at his Farmington home Tuesday.

In a joint news conference, ϳԹ State Police and Farmington police said Dulos was being treated for carbon monoxide poisoning. Dulos had been under house arrest awaiting trial for the murder of his estranged wife, Jennifer Farber Dulos.

Farmington police were called to his home just before noon Tuesday after Dulos failed to turn up for a bail hearing at Superior Court in Stamford.

“When officers responded, they could see through a window that Mr. Dulos was sitting in his vehicle, and he had obvious signs of medical distress,” Farmington police Lt. Tim McKenzie said. “Officers forced entry and immediately began to perform life-saving measures.”

Dulos was taken by ambulance to UConn Health Center in Farmington.

Police said they are continuing to investigate at the home and are interviewing witnesses. McKenzie said Dulos was alone in the home when officers arrived.

Initially, several media outlets reported that Dulos had died. Geralyn Kyser, a neighbor who lives about a quarter-mile from Dulos’ house, said she had been out shopping when she got word of an incident at the home.

Kyser said the high-profile case -- one that has attracted national attention -- has taken its toll on the neighborhood.

“I just want it to be over with,” she told ϳԹ Radio. “It’s disruptive. You’ve got people stopping and you’ve got families out here with their kids and everybody’s parking on the lawn. It’s crazy -- a circus is kind of what it feels like.”

A makeshift memorial to Jennifer Farber Dulos has been created near Fotis Dulos' Farmington home.

Jennifer Farber Dulos disappeared in May 2019 after dropping off the couple’s kids at school in New Canaan. Her body has never been found. The two had been embroiled in a contentious divorce.

Two others have been charged in the case: Dulos’ former girlfriend, Michelle Troconis, and an attorney, Kent Mawhinney, are both charged with conspiracy to commit murder.

Dulos was due to appear in Stamford Superior Court Tuesday for a bond hearing. He had been reported to have violated the terms of his bail by getting out of a car at a memorial set up for his wife and removing items from the site.

He had been under strict house arrest since a court hearing on Jan. 23.
