Hundreds of demonstrations against the Trump administration are planned across the country this Saturday, including some in towns around 黑料吃瓜网.
The is meant to show opposition to 鈥渢he Trump-Musk billionaire takeover and the Republican assault on our freedoms and communities.鈥�
Jim Chapdelaine, founder of , is helping to organize Saturday鈥檚 rally at the 黑料吃瓜网 state Capitol in Hartford. He says the movement is gaining steam at a rapid pace.
鈥淚 wouldn't say growing, I would say exploding,鈥� Chapdelaine said. 鈥淕rowth is not a big enough word.鈥�
Chapdelaine says the rally isn鈥檛 partisan, and that he knows some Republicans who will be attending to protest against government cuts.
鈥淭here are people who voted for Trump but are realizing, 鈥極h my God, look at all the money he's taking from education,鈥� or, 鈥楳y Social Security is endangered,鈥� that's a massive fear,鈥� Chapdelaine said.
Asked about the planned protests, 黑料吃瓜网 House Republican Leader Rep. Vincent Candelora of North Branford issued a statement.
鈥淒emocrats and their activist allies manufacture outrage over President Trump鈥檚 push for accountability, but they couldn鈥檛 be bothered when a catatonic Joe Biden oversaw a failing economy riddled with record inflation,鈥� Candelora said. 鈥淣ow, they expect us to believe they care more about our wallets than winning? Spare us.鈥�
鈥淭hese are the same people who championed a state truck tax tariff, sat silent over the meals tax, supported school shutdowns, masked our kids, and now want boys in girls鈥� sports鈥攁ll while ignoring fraud and incompetence in their own ranks,鈥� Candelora鈥檚 statement concluded.
Chapdelaine said while the demonstrations are anti-Trump, they鈥檙e also more broadly pro-democracy.
鈥溾�楬ands Off鈥� could be 鈥榟ands off my Social Security,鈥� 鈥榟ands off my health care,鈥� 鈥榟ands off my human rights,鈥� anything like that,鈥� he said. 鈥淏ut essentially the real fundamental purpose of this, or the goal, is to stabilize a wobbly democracy.鈥�
Chapdelaine says he expects hundreds if not thousands of attendees at the Capitol demonstration.
鈥淵ou鈥檙e going to leave feeling better, because every time you do an action, you feel better,鈥� he said. 鈥淵ou鈥檙e going to leave feeling like, 鈥極h, there鈥檚 people that feel like me. In fact, look it 鈥� there鈥檚 a lot of them. They鈥檙e willing to stand in the rain to show how they feel.鈥欌��
Speakers listed for the Capitol rally include U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal, Lt. Gov. Susan Bysiewicz, and Attorney General William Tong. Chapdelaine said there would also be 鈥渞eal people with real stories鈥� of how federal cuts have affected their lives.
In addition to the Capitol event, are planned around the state in Windsor, Torrington, Danbury and more.
